Kurdish university Þerzan Kurt was shot dead by police in Mugla last May following an attack by the nationalist Turks on the Kurdish students in town. The trail against the police officer who shot him dead was supposed to be held before Mugla Heavy Criminal Court yesterday.

However, when the family and their lawyers arrived at the court in Mugla they were informed that the trial was referred to Eskisehir Court. It is reported that the referral decision was given by Mugla Heavy Criminal Court the day before in hearing where the family and the lawyer of the victim was present. Furthermore, they family and the lawyers had not been informed about the decision until they turned up at the court. The court also rejected the objection made by the victim lawyers.

One of the lawyers of Kurt family Arif Ali Cangý stated that the hearing in which they were not present was illegal and the aims is to absolve the police officer of the death of Serzan. The parents of Serzan Kurt said they started losing their trust to the Justice.

Kurdish MP of BDP Sýrrý Sakýk who came to Mugla in order to watch the trial reminded 13-year old Ugur Kaymaz who was shot dead by police with 13 bullets. Sakik further said the trails regarding Ugur’s death was also referred to Eskisehir but they will keep following the trials wherever they are sent.

It is also reported that the representatives of NGO’s, trade unions and political parties who came to Mugla in order to watch the hearing were stopped by the gendarmerie 10 km before their arrival to Mugla where they have been kept waiting and their ID cards were filmed. The crow then laid flowers on the street where Serzan was killed.
