Demirtaþ: There is a Kurdish issue and it has to be solved

In an interview to be published tomorrow by Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review, BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ said that “With a courage that has never been seen in past periods, Turkey has discussed the Kurdish issue”. And he added that “there is a Turkey questioning why concrete steps were not taken to solve the issue. Everyone is aware of it: There is a Kurdish issue and it has to be solved.”

Parliamentary deputy Demirtaþ, a lawyer and a graduate from Ankara University Law School, used to be a human rights activist.

According to anticipation made by Hürriyet Daily News, Demirtaþ also said that to reach a permanent solution, Kurdish people demand fundamental changes to the Constitution that remove ethnic emphases, guarantee education in one’s mother tongue and strengthen local administrations.
