Democratic Regions Party announces final declaration following Congress

The DBP Central Executive Committee has outlined the main points of its struggle strategy for the new term. The DBP emphasized the necessity of securing Abdullah Öcalan's freedom and ensuring the status of the Kurdish people.

The Democratic Regions Party (DBP) published the final declaration of its Party Assembly meeting held on 19 January, following its 7th Ordinary Congress.

The declaration said: "Capitalist Modernity, particularly since the second half of the 20th century, has begun to experience deep crises. These crises have become increasingly evident in an environment marked by growing global economic and social inequalities, the intensification of ecological crises, and the erosion of democratic values. Specifically, strategies evolving around new energy sources aim to recalibrate themselves through the outbreak of a global war.

The Middle East, regarded as the epicenter of this war, emerges as a critical area for the reshaping of Capitalist Modernity. The conflicts within the capitalist order centered in the Middle East have evolved into not only economic and political struggles but also ideological wars. The crises experienced by Capitalist Modernity present both a threat and an opportunity for the peoples of the Middle East. In such a period, the Kurdish people, along with other peoples of the region, possess the potential to elevate the struggle for freedom and democracy on common ground. However, realizing this opportunity requires not only the Kurdish people's efforts but also a collective struggle of all the peoples of the region for equal rights."

The key to peace is Abdullah Öcalan's freedom

The declaration added: "The freedom struggle led by the Kurdish people will open the door to the democratization of the Middle East. Undoubtedly, one of the most crucial steps to achieve this outcome is the establishment of Kurdish National Unity. Today, the shifting balances in the Middle East and the global conjuncture shaped by a new world war make the unification of Kurds on the basis of national unity inevitable. The Kurdish issue, systematically left unresolved by the Republic regime in its second century, has now become a global issue and one of the primary causes of the crises in the Middle East. Since October 1, 2024, significant developments have taken place towards addressing this issue. However, we are aware that discussions regarding a resolution to the Kurdish issue, which is a matter that transcends politics, are much deeper and more intricate.

Although there is a sense of enthusiasm in the public regarding the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue and an honorable peace, the targeting of Rojava's achievements, the policy of appointing trustees that usurp political will, and political operations undermine hopes for resolution and peace. Therefore, it is essential to put an end to the policies of denial and aggression, lift the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan, and ensure that negotiations are focused on finding solutions. It must now be recognized that Öcalan’s freedom is the sole key to establishing a climate of peace in the Middle East. For this reason, as the DBP, we firmly believe that any discussions or initiatives aimed at resolving this issue must occur within a framework of concrete steps and with a defined process. Undoubtedly, the most critical step in this regard will be ensuring Öcalan’s physical freedom."

The statement continued: "Öcalan’s model for coexistence (democratic nation-democratic confederalism) is of vital importance. This model serves as a guide for establishing lasting peace in Kurdistan and the Middle East. The model of women’s freedom, democracy, communal living, and ecological society is already being implemented in Rojava. The resistance at the Tishrin Dam and Qereqozaq Bridge is fundamentally an expression of the people’s determination to protect the Rojava model.

In this context, as the DBP, adhering to the Third Way politics and a paradigm rooted in democracy, ecology, and women's freedom, we view the construction of peace conditions and the expansion of our struggle for democratic politics as a historical responsibility for the democratic and peaceful resolution of the Kurdish issue."

The final declaration outlined the following key points:

"- Democratic and peaceful resolution of the Kurdish issue,

- Ensuring the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan,

- Building Kurdish National Unity,

- Protecting the achievements of the Kurdish people, especially in Rojava, and ensuring their recognition and rights,

- Strengthening democratic politics from the perspective of the Third Way Politics,

- Supporting the democracy and freedom demands of peoples and uniting them on a common ground to achieve victory,

- Securing the release of political prisoners held unlawfully in prisons,

- Most importantly, building a free society led by women’s freedom struggle.

-As part of the victory-oriented struggle, our party will implement all decisions with stronger and more widespread organization and party schools/education programs everywhere. Furthermore, by activating an organizational mechanism in which our provincial and district organizations are actively involved, we aim to facilitate the resolution of issues and strengthen the bond between the people and the party. In this framework, with its role and mission, we are determined to make the Democratic Regions Party the fundamental political and social force of Kurdistan and will continue our struggle accordingly."
