Demonstrations for Öcalan's freedom continue in Europe

The tent demonstrations launched in several cities for the freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan in Europe continue. As the demonstrations concluded with rallies yesterday in Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Essen, fascists’ attacks on the activists continued in Linz, Austria.

STUTTGART

The tent vigil demonstration with the motto “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, legal status for Kurdistan” ended in Stuttgart, Germany.

The tent vigil demonstration held open every day by Kurdistani youth, elders, women and men from four parts of Kurdistan with the organisation by Stuttgart Democratic Kurdish Society Center and the J/YXK was concluded on June 30. Kurdistani youth gave constant speeches to inform the public and the activists passed out Naw-Dem’s leaflets and leaflets on Abdullah Öcalan.

The tent vigil was held for 9 days and concluded with the singing of Çerxa Şoreşe anthem. Afterwards people chanted “Bijî Serok Apo”, “Es Lebe Öcalan” and “Murderer Erdoğan”.

DÜSSELDORF

The tent demonstration with the motto “Freedom for Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, legal status for Kurdistan” organized on the call of KCDK-E in Düsseldorf, Germany was concluded on the 10th day.

The tent demonstration led by the Düsseldorf Democratic Kurdish Society Center and Kurdish Women’s Movement was held in Düsseldorf central train station for 10 days with attendance from Women’s Assembly Initiatives and the DKTM. There was great interest in the tent demonstrations where thousands of leaflets were passed out.

On the 10th day of the demonstration, posters of ARGK Guerilla Zeynep Kınacı who carried out an action of self-sacrifice in Dersim center in 1996 were hanged and she was commemorated. Zeynep Kınacı’s friend Helin Amed gave a short speech and talked about her personality. Helin Amed said, “Words are not enough to understand comrade Zilan, you have to feel her and live her.” The tent demonstration was concluded after the speeches.

ESSEN

The week-long vigil tent for Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan was concluded with a rally in Essen. NGOs and political parties supported the rally and gave speeches.

The speeches in the rally stated that Erdoğan was a danger to humanity and that Erdoğan’s existence prevented intercommunal peace.

The rally ended with halay dances and slogans.

LINZ

The tent opened for Öcalan’s freedom was attacked on two consecutive days in Linz, Austria. In yesterday’s demonstration, fascist groups gathered across the street from the activists and Austrian police stood and watched the fascist provocation.

A bottle thrown by a fascist wounded an activist and the incident caused a hurdle.

INSSBRUCK

The two-day long tent demonstration for Öcalan was concluded. The demonstration ended at 20.00 in the evening. Hundreds of leaflets were passed out and speeches were given.

Democratic Kurdish Society Center Co-chair Nuran Koçgîrî spoke in the end of the demonstration and said there were many duties of the Kurds in Europe in this process and that they will play their part as necessary.

GÖTEBORG

Kurdistanis in Göteborg, Sweden set up a tent in a square in the city center for the freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

They hanged a banner that read “Freedom for Öcalan, Peace for Kurdistan” on the tent and informed the Swedish public of the war and massacres in Kurdistan and the isolation imposed upon the Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The activists sometimes dance the halay and chant slogans protesting attacks on Bakur and demanding the Kurdish People’s Leader be released.

Kurdish demonstrators will hold screenings of films depicting the state massacres in Bakur and the life and struggle of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
