Dozens killed in a series of bombings in Baghdad
Around 50 people were killed and dozens of others wounded in a series of explosions that hit the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, early Wednesday.
A series of car bombs and suicide bombers exploded in the capital city, as well as in a town outside Baghdad, in at least 10 separate locations.
French news agency AFP reported that at least 32 people were killed and over 130 were wounded in the attacks which targeted the Kazimiye, Sadir, Şaab, Şula, Cemile and Mahmudiye neighbourhoods. Some other sources report that the deadly attacks left 51 people dead and 160 others wounded.
One of the attacks was carried out by a suicide bomber who targeted a police control point with a car loaded with explosives, killing three and wounding eight others.
According to the figures AFP compiled from police and hospital sources, over 3 thousand 700 people have been killed In Iraq since the beginning of this year. The country has witnessed deadly attacks and bloodshed since 2008.
On August 6, at least eight car bombs and several roadside bombs killed 31 people, while 47 people died in a spate of explosions and gun attacks in the capital on August 10. Five days later, 24 people died in nine bombings in Baghdad.
