Fierce clashes in Serêkaniyê’s Elok village
Clashes between People's Defense Units (YPG) and al-Qaeda linked ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and ash-Sham) and al-Nusra Front have intensified on Monday evening in the village of Elok, located seven km away from the Serêkaniyê city in western Kurdistan.
Fierce clashes are reported to be continuing today also.
Radical Islamist groups attacking the Kurdish region have recently focused their attacks on Serêkaniyê with the support of Turkey which has several days ago opened its border crossing point to gang groups and enabled their entrance into the Kurdish region under the surveillance of Turkish soldiers.
According to the reports, Turkish authorities have also enabled the crossing of gang groups into Turkey yesterday by having the wire fences along 30 kilometers, between the villages of Erada and Feqîran, removed.
YPG says that the recently intensified attacks of the gang groups aimed to sever Serêkaniyê's connections with other Kurdish cities.
