Global Action Days for Rojava a success, say promoters

In more than 100 cities, in more than 30 countries, thousands of people have taken to the streets to join the Global Action Days on 18 and 19 July, for the 8th anniversary of the Rojava Revolution.

The Internationalist Commune of Rojava, Women Defend Rojava,  RiseUp4Rojava and Make Rojava Green Again released a statement about the Global Action Days on 18 and 19 July to mark the 8th anniversary of the biggest revolution of the 21st century started in Kobanê (Rojava, North-East Syria), showing that another world is possible.

The statement said: "In Geneva, during a demonstration this weekend Red Help explains why they are supporting the revolution: 'This project is a threat to the existing dictatorship in Turkey because it defends a democratic society. It is also a hope that new forms of revolutionary, democratic, feminist and environmentalist societal organisation will emerge all over the world. It proves to us that capitalist hegemony can still be challenged.'"

The list of cities which joined the Global Action Days is long. It ranges from Sydney in Australia, Mexico, Jakarta, Barcelona, London, Berlin and New York. In all these cities, there have been demonstrations, rallies, films, webinars or information events in the past few days.

Different campaigns and organisations in Rojava had called for global days of action for the 18th and 19th of July to defend the revolution in Rojava, North-Eastern Syria, to commemorate the Spanish revolution of 1936, the Nicaraguan revolution of 1979, and to strengthen and connect the common democratic struggles all around the world. Many organizations and individuals joined the call and actions took place in more than 30 countries.

The statement added: "In Germany, the action group "Acker bleibt!" (Field stays!) in North-Hesse, has expressed its support and solidarity with the Kurdish Freedom Movement. "The Kurdish freedom struggle stands for building a society beyond capitalist modernity. Beyond the destruction of the natural foundations of this earth and towards a need-oriented society. The friends in Kurdistan fight for the preservation of their freedoms based on society's property."
In New York, one activist explained the relation of the different racist attacks, taking place in the USA and the fascist attacks against the Kurds and the different minorities in North-East Syria.
The focus of the days has been to combine and support struggles all around the world against colonialism, fascism, patriarchy and femicides, ecological destruction, and all forms of oppression."

The statement recalled that "one militant from Buenos Aires in the webinar organised by Kongra Star draws the connection between the global oppression of women: 'The situation in every country has to be changed, we see nowadays all around the world, women are taking the lead to create a free world. In every place the patriarchal system tries to diminish our role in society. But we will never look down anymore. As the women movement shows in Rojava: We can change the system.'"

All organisers of the #RiseUp4Revolution action days evaluate the past days as a great success, and ensure that the antifascist struggle is continuing.
