An official says yesterday that security forces have killed two villagers they mistook for PKK guerrillas.

Mehmet Celalettin Lekesiz, governor for Hatay province, said yesterday that the soldiers opened fire on the men as they picked herbs near the Syrian border Monday. Another villager was injured.

Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) so far have declined to comment.
