President Abdullah Gül said on Sunday that discussing whether Turkey's axis had shifted was ignorance and ill-intention. Gül made the remarks answering questions from reporters on board the plane taking the president from Turkey to South Korea.
Reminded of recent discussions on Turkey's axis, Gül said, "people should look at Britain, France and Spain. They have good relations with several countries all over the world. Do people talk about axes of these countries? Spain has special agreements and relations with the most revolutionist countries. No one talks about axis of Spain."
Gül said Turkey was a country which approved 98 percent of decisions made by the EU in foreign policy.
"It is absurd to discuss whether axis of Turkey is shifting by taking into consideration its relations with its neighboring countries or countries in its region," he said.
"We should focus on issues whether democracy is strengthened in Turkey and whether the country approaches to the EU or gets away from it. We should discuss these matters," he said.
