Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has released the final declaration of the Party Assembly meeting held in Ankara yesterday.
HDP pointed out that the AKP's war policy targeted civilians and called on the AKP to start dialogue and negotiations and abandon the 'war to the end' perspective that has caused great pains and prices in the Kurdish region of Turkey.
'KURDISH PEOPLE FORCED TO MIGRATION LIKE IN 90'S'
HDP stated that the war started by AKP has targeted the civilians and claimed many lives in Lice, Varto, Silvan, Yüksekova and Cizre in recent weeks.
The party recalled declaration of curfew in Yüksekova district of Hakkari was followed by the attacks of police and military forces that staged a crackdown in neighborhoods where self-rule was declared, which claimed the lives of civilians and left many others wounded who are also being prevented from receiving treatment at hospital. HDP noted that NGOs and deputies were also denied entrance in the district where all communication, power and water supplies were hindered and cut off.
Likening the current situation in the Kurdish region to that during the 90's, the final declaration of the HDP Party Assembly meeting said declarations of military zones and attacks on locals aimed to force civilians to migrate, adding; “The AKP which is dragging Turkey into a heavy war environment, has now started a war against the people on the excuse of their political demand for self-rule. Elected politicians and local administrators are being jailed, among whom women are being subject to gendered practices and bodies of women are being targeted by a gendered revenge, as in the case of Ekin Wan.”
The party also noted that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan imposed another election on Turkey's society after ignoring the results of June 7 elections and hindered the formation of a coalition government, adding that the price of the political uncertainty was, however, being paid by the peoples themselves.
'AKP SHOULD ABANDON THE PRO-WAR PERSPECTIVE AND TURN BACK TO NEGOTIATIONS'
HDP underlined that the peoples of Turkey, families of fallen soldiers, police and guerrillas in the first place, had no more endurance left to the war and losses of life, and pointed to the KCK officials's statements for 'mutual ceasefire' as an important step in this regard. HDP called on the government to answer this call and do what i necessary in order for the achievement of mutual ceasefire, and stressed that the AKP ruling should abandon the 'war to the end' perspective that has resulted in great pains and prices, and turn back to the point of dialogue and negotiations.
"We emphasize once again that peace is much more important than elections. The struggle for peace is the most prominent and urgent agenda of our party organizations. Against the Palace that defends 'war to the end', we say 'peace to the end'.
'OUR MINISTERS WILL GIVE A STRUGGLE FOR PEACE, DEMOCRACY AND JUSTICE'
The final resolution listed the following decisions made at the Party Assembly meeting;
- Our Party Assembly has approved the Central Executive Committee's decision to 'take part in a constitutional election government'. For us, an election government is also an arena of struggle.
- Our ministers will continue the fight for peace, democracy and justice against the Palace coup and AKP's war policy.
- Our Party Assembly has authorized the Central Executive Committee for the determination of candidates for November 1 elections.
- Our Party Assembly will say 'no' to the mandate for military action in Iraq and Syria recently submitted by the AKP government to the Parliament.
As part of the events for the upcoming 1 September World Peace Day, HDP called upon the Peace Bloc and all democratic and pro-peace forces to raise a voice for peace and against war policies across the country."
