HDP Co-chair Buldan: Isolation will end!

"Leyla Güven has now reached a critical stage. Leyla is struggling for peace for the future of this country in the prison where she is held unlawfully, with the only means she has," said HDP Co-chair Pervin Buldan.

Co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Pervin Buldan, discussed issues on the agenda at her party's parliamentary group meeting.

Buldan began by recalling Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez, the three Kurdish women politicians murdered in Paris on 9 January 2013.

What was the purpose of those who ordered the Paris Massacre? Today, Leyla Güven demands to end the isolation they want to implement. On 5 April 2015, they started isolation and launched a war. Those who ordered the massacre on that day continue the isolation today. There is a connection between isolation and the Paris massacre.”

Leyla Güven’s resistance

Buldan reminded that Leyla Güven is on the 62nd day of a hunger strike demanding the end of the isolation imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

“Leyla lost her father while she was in jail. Now she lost her mother. The Ministry, as if unaware of her state of health, offered to take her with a prison shuttle to the condolence ceremony. Leyla Güven lost 14 pounds. Her blood pressure is dropping. She has nausea. She does not accept fluid consumption. Leyla Güven has now reached a critical stage. Leyla is struggling for peace for the future of this country in the prison where she is held unlawfully, with the only means she has.”

HDP Co-chair added: “We cannot leave suspended in the air the hand Leyla is stretching out. Not only for Leyla, but for the future of our children, I call on all the democracy forces to listen: Leyla is on a hunger strike for you. She is using her body to say: end isolation, let’s bring peace to this country. She is saying, don’t leave this country in the hands of the Palace, don’t let this country be shattered.”

Buldan ended her remarks by reminding that there are 150 prisoners on indefinite hunger strike. "This dark isolation is going to end”, she said.
