HDP delegation concludes visit to Spain

In a series of diplomatic contacts, a delegation from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) held talks with representatives of political parties and government officials in Spain.

A HDP delegation consisting of party spokeswoman Ebru Günay, foreign relations commission co-spokesperson Hisyar Özsoy and lawmaker Dersim Dağ, held diplomatic contacts in Madrid, Spain on November 3-5.

The delegation debated over Turkey's relations with Spain, the European Union and the Council of Europe with representatives of political parties, spokespersons of parties within the Spanish Parliament Foreign Relations Committee, government officials, senators and deputies.

The political situation in Turkey, HDP's political line, the current situation, the Kurdish issue which has become a regional problem, and tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, especially Syria were also discussed during the meetings.

Problems experienced by women in Turkey and Kurdistan and Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention were also addressed by the politicians.

In a meeting held with the Minister of State for Equality, a member of PODEMOS in the ruling alliance, cooperation over women's rights was agreed between the groups. The Spanish minister stated that they would invite HDP women to Madrid for the 8 March events.

The HDP Foreign Relations Commission vowed to strengthen its diplomatic relations with Madrid and the autonomous regions of Catalonia, Basque Country and Galicia in the coming period.
