People’s Democracy Party MPs started a “Conscience and Justice Vigil” in Ankara for imprisoned MPs.
Fourth “Conscience and Justice Vigil” for imprisoned MPs of HDP started in Ankara following vigils in Diyarbakır, Istanbul and Izmir.
HDPs spokesperson Osman Baydemir, HDP parliamentary group co-chair Ahmet Yildirim, HDP spokesperson for women Dilan Dirayet Tasdemir attended the vigils first day. The vigil takes place in Ahlatlibel Park near the Constitutional Court of Turkey.
Speaking on the event Baydemir said “Now it's our greatest responsibility against our children and future generations. Our greatest legacy for our children is a peace with honor and a democratic regime.”
Citing 11 HPD MPs imprisonment for more than 300 days in Turkey called the prosecution “a lie”.
“Why HDPs co-chair Selahattin Demirtas case didn’t start for 307 days? There were no court sessions on Demirtas’s file” Baydemir asked.
Baydemir accused Turkish government of interfering with jurisdiction and said in Demirtas’ case the government influenced the prosecution several times.
"The only way to establish public security is peace. And justice mechanism is the most precious tool on the way to achieve peace. The government should abandon oppressive policies in order to let the judges decide with their conscience and laws. We demand that the political powers keep their oppressive policies off the justice mechanism. We will continue our actions until justice manifests itself and rule of law will be established. We will be here this week. We will continue to show effort in order to free legal political actors.
After Baydemir’s speech MPs started the vigil at the park.
