The Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) issued a message of condolence to the people of Kurdistan and Turkey, the DEM Party, and the family of Sırrı Süreyya Önder, member of the Imralı Delegation and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, who passed away on Saturday.
The KNK stated that the most valuable work of Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a politician, writer, artist, and peace activist, was his uninterrupted efforts for peace over the past 12 years: “During these 12 years, the name Sırrı was mentioned together with the search for a peaceful solution to the Kurdish issue. He played a pivotal role both during the 2013-2025 period and in the process that began seven months ago. He was arrested for his peace efforts and spent more than three years in prison. As part of his work, he visited İmralı Island dozens of times and held very important meetings with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan. He shared Mr. Öcalan's messages to the Freedom Movement leadership, the Turkish government, parties, organizations, and the public in a beautiful language, laying the groundwork for a peaceful and democratic solution to the Kurdish issue. Additionally, he conveyed the messages of all parties to Mr. Öcalan. The passing of Sırrı Süreyya Önder represents a significant loss to efforts toward a peaceful resolution and the construction of a democratic country.”
