While bombing on Kandil by Turkish and Iranian army goes on, anti-mine organization Hawirdor Parastin (HAWPAR) sped up its works.
In order to avoid civilians getting hurt, HAWPAR has collected and defused over 500 howitzer, katyusha, rocket and mortar shells in the last one month.
It is possible to come across a mine, an unexploded howitzer or mortar, a rocket or a katyusha rocket at any time in the South Kurdistan mountains.
The explosives are threatening primarily the lives of people who go out on land in the spring to pick grass or to herd their animals.
Every year tens of civilians become victims of mines or explosives in the South Kurdistan mountains.
During the land search conducted in May, Kandil centered HAWPAR defused over 500 explosives hidden underground, bushes or stream beds.
While preventing hundreds of potential deaths by demining and defusing war surplus explosives since 2002, HAWPAR is preserving also the Kurdistan territory.
