Hunger strike in Strasbourg: Day 69

The hunger strikers declared that they are determined to continue their hunger strike until they will destroy the wall built around Imrali by the AKP-MHP fascism.

Fourteen Kurdish activists have been on hunger strike for 69 days in Strasbourg.

Among the 14 hunger strikers are HDP former MP Dilek Öcalan, Kurdish Democratic Society of Europe (KCDK-E) co-chair, Yüksel Koç, and journalist Gülistan Ike.

The activists, who pointed out that the isolation on Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan is part of the fascist policies implemented on the Kurds and other peoples, declared that they are determined to continue their hunger strike until they will destroy the wall built around Imrali by the AKP-MHP fascism.

Visits from Germany and France

On the 69th day of fast, the hunger strikers have been visited by Kurds and friends coming from all over Europe. Today, many Kurds from Lubeck and Kassel in Germany came to Strasbourg to express their support to the action.

Many visitors are coming from cities and towns near Strasbourg. A group of people came from Saint Avold.

A protest was held in front of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) organised by the Shengal Diaspora Council and the families of the hunger strikers, as part of the resistance action in Strasbourg.

Hundreds of people have come to Strasbourg for the weekend to ensure maximum solidarity to the hunger strikers who have reached a critical stage in their fast.

Doctors report on hunger strikers

Doctors are closely monitoring the health condition of the hunger strikers who have now reached a critical stage. Doctors are next to the hunger strikers since the beginning of the action and have been repeating their warnings in recent weeks, urging immediate action.
