Hunger strikers’ families visit German Consulate in Istanbul

Families of politicians on an indefinite non-alternating hunger strike against the Imrali isolation visited the German Consulate to urge Europe to action.

Families of politicians who continue the indefinite non-alternating hunger strikes led by DTK Co-chair and HDP MP Leyla Guven to end the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan visited the German Consulate to make their voice heard.

Among the families visiting the consulate were Mihriban Koc, the 88 year old mother of KCDK-E Co-chair Yuksel Koc who is on day 78 of his hunger strike alongside the 14 activists in Strasbourg, his sister Cahide Yildirim, his brother Vural Koc and Gulseren Yildirim, the sister of political prisoner Abdullatif Teymur who is on day 69 of his hunger strike in the Bafra Type T Prison.

The families met in front of the German consulate accompanied by Libertarian Lawyers Platform (OHP) Member Lawyer Ahmet Baran Celik and the Peace Mothers. Their request to meet with the Consul General was rejected, on grounds that they didn’t have a previous appointment.

The families met with an officer from the consulate and relayed their demand through a translator. They also submitted the folder they had previously submitted to the CPT about the hunger strikes and the isolation itself.
