Once again intellectuals came together at the weekend to discuss the Kurdish question and how to solve it.
Writers, journalists and politicians tried to find answers to the questions related to the ongoing process and its effects on solving the Kurdish question in a peaceful way. The intellectuals agree that the State has to look at Kurds as interlocutors while at the same time trying to solve the question before a general election scheduled for next year.
Journalist Ali Bayramoðlu: There is no way to solve the problem without addressing and involving the Kurds. There is a huge problem with the AKP (Justice and Development Party) administration’s policy on this. There is nobody recognized as interlocutor on the Kurdish side. First of all AKP needs to accept this and speaks to representative from the Kurdish side.
Writer and journalist Cengiz Candar: more dangerous times are waiting for Turkey. That's why we need to solve this question soon. The danger is that hopes for peace will be canceled. AKP has to give up its deadlock policy. Turkey needs a very clear and understandable political step. And we have an election period ahead which can create even more complicated problems. I’m not so optimistic since it is very clear that the pre-election time is not a good time to take bold and brave steps.
Writer and journalist Ethen Mahcupyan; Our duty is going to be heavier from now on. It is unbearably shameful. I should say the AKP is not the only responsible of the situation we find ourselves in. The solution must be possible if you use political methods which mean understand and listen to each other. AKP and also PKK have to find some common ground publicly or behind closed doors, it doesn’t matter and then we can hope for some new steps for solution.
Political scientist Prof. Dr. Baskin Oran: AKP is very shy to practice new political action. But being shy cannot help them and it won't help the Kurds as well. But I’m still optimistic about reaching a solution of the Kurdish question. In a while I believe AKP is going to see the right way to go because of increasing negative developments.
