Investigation against mayors of Istanbul and Ankara

An investigation was launched against the mayors of the Istanbul and Ankara metropolitan municipalities, for the aid campaign they promoted.

Despite having taken no measures to fight the coronavirus outbreak, the AKP-MHP government has been asking people for money to run 'solidarity campaigns'. Yet, it has ordered an investigation on the aid campaigns promoted by the metropolitan municipalities of Istanbul and Ankara.

The Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş for the aid campaigns launched to help people who suffered economically due to coronovirus.

News of the investigation was given by Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

A charity campaign was launched by the municipalities on 30 March. Immediately after Turkish Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu issued a circular against this campaign.
