Iran trying to contain spreading of Covid-19 will free prisoners

2,922 people, including dozens of parliamentarians, have proved positive with Covid-19 in Iran.

Iran announced that more than 54,000 prisoners will be temporarily released in an effort to prevent a coronavirus epidemic, and hundreds of thousands of healthcare workers will mobilize to perform medical checks.

According to official figures, 2,922 people, including dozens of parliamentarians, have proved positive with Covid-19, the new coronavirus species that started in the city of Qom, with 586 new cases compared to the previous day.

According to the same data, at least 92 people have died so far. However, the foreign press estimates that this number may be hundreds.

It has been learned that the government will temporarily release 54,000 prisoners to prevent the spread of Covid-19. 

In addition, more than 300,000 health officials are being mobilized in order to increase the controls throughout the country, especially in the city of Qom. The city was visited by many people from Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, who were diagnosed with the Covid-19 virus upon their return to their countries.

Authorities announced that everyone leaving Qom would be checked and those suspected of having been infected would be quarantined.

One of the advisors of religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei died from the virus while at least 23 parliamentarians have been proven positive to the virus.
