KCK condemns the attack on guerrillas' cemetery

Releasing a written statement on Friday, Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council Presidency condemned the Tuesday's attack on the Agit Suruç Martyrs' Cemetery in Bendere region near Bagok mountain, in Mardin's (Mêrdîn) Nusaybin (Nisêbîn) district.

KCK pointed out that the attack was not an ordinary incident and that it was the most concrete manifestation of the disrespect for the values of the Kurdish people.

Reminding that the military forces of the Turkish exploitative powers demolished the cemetery and exhumed the bodies of some Kurdish guerrillas from their grave in a process the Turkish state is expected to take steps for the democratic resolution process, KCK said that “We take this attack as an insult against the existence and values of the Kurdish people, and strongly condemn and protest it”.

“Martyrs are the most sacred value and cemeteries the most sacred place of a people. No ethics, cultures, religions, ideologies and politics approve an attack on cemeteries. The attack on Kurdish martyrs, who sacrificed their life in order to lead an honorable life instead of living as slaves, is an attack against the Kurdish people”, KCK underlined.

KCK remarked that the deliberate attack on the cemetery was incited and encouraged by the policies and practices of the Turkish government which -it added- has undergone no change in its mindset and policy so far in order to achieve a fair peace with Kurds in line with the process in search of a democratic solution to the Kurdish question. “This attack is the evidence of the fact that the Turkish state respects neither Kurds nor their martyrs, and that it deems all kinds of attacks proper for Kurds”, it added.

KCK called on the Kurdish people to enhance their protests and uprising in response to the attack on their martyrs.

Urging the Turkish government, as well as the military and administrative authorities in the region, to apologize for the attack and to take those responsible to court, KCK added that only this attitude would help to develop a fair and democratic peace with Kurds.
