The Kurdish National Congress (KNK) Executive Council announced the outcome of its meeting held on 14-15 January 2023 in a written statement.
The KNK said: “The Turkish state recklessly continues to threaten and attack Rojava and aims to occupy the whole of the region. The Turkish state's attacks on South Kurdistan also continue, and chemical weapons and internationally banned weapons are used in these attacks.”
The KNK also discussed the “developments in Turkey and evaluated the attacks against the politicians and the people of North Kurdistan.”The statement added: “No trace of democracy has been left in Turkey and North Kurdistan. The AKP-MHP fascist government systematically bans the language and culture of the Kurdish people and denies the very existence of the Kurds.
Attacks on Rojava, Shengal and Maxmur have increased and all kinds of chemical weapons are used in these attacks. Threats against Rojava have increased and the region is especially under threat of occupation.”
The statement said that “the developments in Iraq and South Kurdistan and the attacks on Shengal were also evaluated. The 9 October Agreement between the Turkish state, the KDP government and the Iraqi central government has reached dangerous dimensions.”
In its meeting, the Council particularly focused on the isolation imposed on Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan and called “on the CPT and the European Parliament to fulfill their duties. The isolation of Mr. Öcalan should be lifted and visits by lawyers and family should be allowed.”
