KON-MED calls for strong participation in demonstrations on 2 September

KON-MED will organize a number of actions in Germany on 2 September to demand freedom for Abdullah Öcalan.

The Confederation of Kurdistan Societies in Germany (KON-MED), the largest Kurdish institution in Germany, announced a series of actions in several cities in Germany on 2 September, demanding that Kurdish people's leader, Abdullah Öcalan, see his lawyers and his family immediately, as he has been in total isolation for two and a half years, and the Kurdish people have no information about his health, condition and situation

In a written statement on Wednesday, KON-MED called for strong participation in the demonstrations to be held under the motto “Status for Kurds, Freedom for Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan” on the hundredth year anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne which divided Kurdistan into four parts.

“Occupation attacks against Kurdistan have increased following the isolation imposed on Leader Öcalan. In the face of this crime against humanity, relevant international institutions and states have maintained their silence. As the Kurdish people, we will take to the streets against this silence. We will enhance our struggle for status for Kurdistan and the physical freedom of Leader Öcalan.”

The demonstrations to be staged on 2 September are as follows:

Dusseldorf: In front of DGB Haus, at 13:00

Berlin: Breitscheidplatz, at 16:00

Hamburg: In front of Hauptbahnhof, at 15:00

On the other hand, a central demonstration with participants from France, Switzerland and southern Germany will take place in Strasbourg on 2 September. The kick-off is at 10 a.m. from Republic Square (67000 Strasbourg).
