Kurdish artist Hozan Cömert taken into custody

Kurdish artist Hozan Cömert who arrived in Turkey to join an event in Van has been taken into custody at Atatürk Airport on Sunday.

Cömert's detention is reported to be related with an ongoing investigation opened against him earlier.

After going through medical tests at Bakırköy State Hospital, Cömert was taken back to the police station at the airport. The Kurdish artist will reportedly be referred to Bakırköy Courthouse tomorrow after spending the night in custody.

Cömert's lawyer Rezan Sarıca said they didn't know the reason for the Kurdish artist's detention.

The Kurdish artist had also been taken into custody the last time he came to Turkey in May, to take to the stage in a concert Federation of Democratic Students Associations (DÖDEF) organized in solidarity with Rojava. Cömert was later deported from Turkey.
