Kurdish language classes in Amed

The Kurdish language course opened by the Vocational Training Centre of Social Service Department of Amed Metropolitan Municipality is providing mother tongue education for a number of people from different social circles.

The Kurdish course, given by teachers of Kurdi-Der Amed Branch at the Sümerpark, aims to train qualified personnel for Kurdish training, providing language training at both beginner and advanced level.

Giving information about the Kurdish course, Kurdi-Der teacher Salih Öngü said that 90 people are currently joining the course which will last three months.

Remarking that the course is drawing intense interest from local people, Öngü said they were pleased to see the attendees of the conference own their language, make an effort to learn it and to speak it in the daily life.

Öngü added that they also aimed to enable more people to use their mother language in everyday life.

On the other hand, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Istanbul provincial organization has submitted 30 thousand petitions for mother language to the directorate of national education on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference outside the directorate of national education, BDP Istanbul co-chair Emrullah Bingül remarked that mother tongue cannot be a matter of debate and negotiation.

Bingül demanded the removal of all obstacles to the use of mother languages, and warned that the failure to answer the demands of the Kurdish people in the ongoing resolution process would cause significant concerns for Kurds.
