The convoy of BDP in which Kurdish MP’s were taking part was stopped at the entrance of Dortyol upon the ban from the provincial governor office. Co-chair of the BDP Selahattin Demirtas criticized the governor’s order not to let them in the town and said: “Once again our peace attempts were prevented by tanks and soldiers.”
Demirtas also said stated that they only wanted to visit the citizens who were subjected to nationalist attacks and wounded with firearms. They had no intention to cause a riot that is why they did not come to the town with thousands of people but as a small delegation composed of parliamentarians and members of the executive board. Demirtas further said not their visit but the governor’s decision is raising the tension in the town and encouraging the attacks.
On the other had the mayor of Dortyol elected from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) threatened the MP’s not to come to Dortyol. Speaking in a TV programme the mayor claimed that the statements from the Kurdish MP’s in which they were criticizing the security forces for not doing enough to prevent the attacks against Kurdish citizens have disturbed some ‘sensitive’ citizens. He further blamed the Kurds for inciting the citizens.
It is also reported that the Kurds in the town protested against the governor’s decision not to let the MP’s in the town and held a demonstration. A demonstrator said to ANF that the police attacked the protest with tear gas and water cannons.
After HPG guerillas laid an ambush on a police patrol in which 4 soldiers were killed last week, Turkish nationalist attacked Kurdish shops and houses. Nationalists also injured two Kurdish shop owners with firearms.
