HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven has sent a New Year message from Amed jail where she is held a hostage.

The HDP deputy has been on hunger strike for 55 days demanding the end of the isolation regime imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Drawing attention to the pressures on the Kurdish people in 2018, Güven said that 2019 will be the year of resistance.

Güven wrote: “When societies meet a new year, they wish the best of their desires to become true. These demands and aspirations vary according to each geography and society. The Kurds, the most ancient people of the Middle East, have a common and almost sole longing. A lasting and honorable peace. For this common demand, they struggle uninterruptedly in every area of life.”

Güven continued: “At the beginning of 2018, the hearts of all Kurds were beating in Afrin, an olive-smelling city. At the beginning of 2019, these hearts beat in Kobanê, which succeeded in getting rid of the occupation of DAESH.

Again, before and after 2018, the isolation imposed on the Kurdish people has not been ended. The isolation imposed on Mr. Öcalan is imposed on all Kurdish people. Undoubtedly, in 2018, we left behind pain and sorrow like in the years before that. The people’s heroes, whose places will never be filled, were physically separated from us this year. Comrade İbrahim Ayhan and many others.

The pains never changed, in fact they doubled. Women have always been victims of male violence. Prisons are overflowed, unlawfulness is the rule. They want to take from us the rights we achieved with a heavy price. And of course the prisoners are resisting. This is a crime against humanity, the isolation has not been lifted. Child prisoners continue to be under attack. Ill prisoners are slowly left to die. The conscience of society continued to bleed.”

Güven added: “The Peace Mothers, the Saturday Mothers did not stop gathering. The minister who has forgotten that he, too, has a mother, had the police attack the mothers with gas bombs. Deaths did not stop, peace was weakened.

In 2018, the bans, pressures and attacks of the AKP-MHP fascist power continued to increase. The elected representatives of the Kurdish people were pushed out of politics by the judiciary. They were arrested, sentenced. There is no one left to be tried for his or her thoughts. Hundreds of people were detained and sentenced for decades because of the activities carried out by the DTK. The DTK is the address of the democratic and peaceful solution of the Kurdish question.”

Despite all, 2018 also recorded successes, wrote Güven. “We have achieved great success in the elections that took place in a fascist environment. On Newroz, and on 8 March Kurds were everywhere. In autumn, we started the resistance to break isolation because isolation is a crime against humanity. Yes, we are entering 2019 with the spirit of great death fast resistance in Amed jail. Although 36 years have passed, we feel and we know that the spirit of resistance is still alive, that living is honorable. It is an incredibly nice feeling to meet the new year with resistance. This will be a year of resistance. It is possible to crash the isolation by enlarging the resistance.

2019 will be precisely the year of freedom. In Rojava we will witness the birth of a red sun. A revolution brought to life by the contract made by people to live together. The world's biggest women's revolution will take place in this geography, democratic developments will affect the whole Middle East and the people will no longer need the solution designed by others.

From 2019, our target will be bigger than our expectations. I wish everyone, especially the insurgents a new year, and it would not be a year of hunger, misery, unemployment, child abuse, women's assault, arrests, deaths. The new year will be a year of resistance."
