MSD Co-chair: We are planning a Syria Congress

MSD Co-chair Emine Omer said they believe the path of dialogue is the base for the solution to the Syrian crisis and that they are planning to hold a congress to encompass Syria in general by the end of this year.

Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) Co-chair Emine Omer spoke to the Sorani service of the ANF about Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s message to Northern and Eastern Syria and the latest developments in Syria, and said the MSD believes the path of dialogue is the base for the solution to the Syrian crisis. Omer added that they are planning to hold a congress to encompass Syria in general by the end of this year.

Emine Omer said Ocalan’s message gave great morale to the peoples of the region and continued: “It gave great morale to the peoples of the region that the Leader, who has been under isolation for years, is well. Leader Apo said in his message to the Syrian Democratic Forces that the path to a solution is through dialogue, and we as the MSD believe that the solution to the issues is through dialogue. We also say that we have some conditions for Turkey.”

Emine Omer said the Turkish state has not given up on their plans to invade Syria and added: “Turkey still hasn’t given up on the goal to control Syrian territory and to be the sole holder of power in the region. They supported all jihadist groups to this end, they nurtured ISIS. They haven’t given up. The main goal there is to invade Syria.”

“CLANS PLAYED A GREAT ROLE IN THE WAR AGAINST ISIS”

Emine Omer also spoke about the solution to the Syrian crisis and said they organized 3 workshops where they came together with representatives from Syrian opposition and most recently held a large meeting with Syrian opinion leaders. Emine Omer said some 5.000 people attended the meeting where they came together with clan and opinion leaders in the region and added: “With this meeting we wanted to bring together the opinion leaders and intellectuals of the peoples of the region and tell them about MSD’s project. We wanted to hear their views and suggestions. Because the opinion leaders of the region’s peoples played a great role in the fight against ISIS alongside the SDF and they played a role in the victory.”

“WE ARE TRYING EVERY OPTION FOR A SOLUTION”

“We believe the path of dialogue is the base for the solution to the Syrian crisis. We are pushing for that with both the Syrian regime and other parties,” said the MSD Co-chair and continued: “Last year we had two meetings with the regime but they were unfruitful. Because the regime doesn’t want to change its mindset. The regime doesn’t want to accept a project where all the peoples and faiths of the region get their rights. The regime still thinks the rights of the Kurdish people mean two hours of language education every week. We did not accept that. We said all the peoples of Syria have a right and that they all must have their rights. We say a pluralist constitution needs to be written so everybody’s rights are guaranteed.”

“WE ARE PLANNING A SYRIA CONGRESS”

MSD Co-chair Emine Omer said they have a 6-month planning for the solution to the Syrian crisis: “Our efforts continue both in Syria and abroad for a political solution. Now we are meeting with various groups, starting with France and Austria, we are meeting with European countries, Arab states and Syria. We are holding meetings and workshops on various subjects like how the future of Syria should be, the Syrian constitution and the administrative structure. We estimate these meetings to last for 6 months. approximately. And then we are planning to hold a Syria congress.”
