Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan met with a BDP delegation today in prison.

Öcalan pointed out that in order for the process towards a solution to the Kurdish question to be effective his position should change. "I need - he said - to be put in a more strategic position in order to act more effectively both on the issues of Turkey and Syria". The Kurdish leader added he understood his role has being considered "rather instrumental".

Öcalan also stressed that for the process to procede in a healthy way a real democratization package is essential and for this the AKP government needs to take the appropriate steps and be more inclusive.
