Osman Kezlere, who fell ill with cancer in prison and got worse due to late treatment, has been hospitalized thanks to the efforts by the IHD (Human Rights Association). Being at death’s door, Kezlere is observed by two soldiers charged by state.
Almost every single day, says IHD, we receive a cancer, a disease or a death news of prisoners. While once again Abdullah Akçay, Nurettin Soysal, Halil Güneþ and human rights defender Rýdvan Kýzgýn lost their lives as they weren’t released despite being at the point of death, a similar news came from Ýstanbul.
Osman Kezlere, who was arrested with judicial crime on 25 September 2008 and sentenced to 2 years and 7 months imprisonment, caught cancer during his imprisonment. His disease progression has not even allowed him see his family in the last one year. When Polat Kezlere applied at ÝHD Ýstanbul Branch due to his father’s illness and demanded legal affair,Osman Kezlere was for the first time taken to treatment in Süreyya Paþa Hospital.
‘MY FATHER IS NOW AT DEATH’S DOOR’
However; it has been figured out that Kezlere, who has to be remited by the President according to the laws, can not be cured and there is nothing much to do for him. Although the prison sent Kezlere’s report to the hospital, the procedures of the ill prisoner were started only after ÝHD’s engagement. While Kezlere is still held in the prisoner room of the hospital, he is not allowed to have any visitors. Getting in touch with Presidency and Ministry of Justice, ÝHD authorities are applying to Forensic Medicine Institution to bring the remission up to speed. Stating that he was able to see his father on his last visit in prison owing to the help of a prisoner, Polat Kezlere shows his reaction to the case as follows; “The disease surrounded him as he was not even taken to a hospital for such a long time. He shits himself because he can’t get out of the bed and do anything by main force. I don’t understand what the state wants from him. Here is our country.”
‘LEFT TO DEATH IN PRISON’
Concerning the advanced cancer disease of his father, Kezlere said the followings; “ The procedure was started only after our application to ÝHD. The prosecutor soonish wanted my father’s file from the prison when we told him about our application to ÝHD and said that we would file a criminal complaint if he wasn’t taken to the hospital. There is nothing to do now but at least, we want him to spend his last days close to his wife and children. Soldiers are constantly standing guard by him and don’t even let us give him water.”
Kezlere remarks that his father, who weighs nearly 20-25 kilos now, must urgently be transferred to a normal room and enabled family visit as there is not much time in the last days of his father’s life.
WHAT WILL THE FORENSIC MEDICINE DO THIS TIME?
For the remission, Kezlere needs the report of Forensic Medicine, which has been politicizated and strongly reacted by human rights institutions recently due to unscientific reports against Kurdish prisoners. The Forensic Medicine gives clean medical report to Kurdish prisoners at death’s door, while the clean reports of particularly 3. Specialization Committee having caused many deaths of very sick patients. Nur Birgen is at the head of the committee, whose last victim was Abdullah Akçay, who had lost his life a in a short time after the clean report of the board saying that he could keep staying in prison.
