BDP Diyarbakýr MP Akýn Birdal has called Board of Review of Grand National Assembly of Turkey to an emergency meeting to establish a commission to inquire into the violence of security forced on students who wanted to show their democratic reflections during the meeting of Prime Minister Erdoðan with university rectors at Ýstanbul Dolmabahçe Palace.
Issuing a written call to the commission concerning the subject, Akýn bridal pointed out that the violence of security forces on students drew the attention of press, adding; The image of students who were exposed to police boots and sticks in Ýstanbul, the 2010 European Capital of Culture, put forward the intolerantness of political power to those struggling for their rights while it claims that an advanced democracy has been reached.
Birdal stated that 14 students were beaten, wounded and detained in company with sticks and pepper gas while some other students are not even allowed into Ýstanbul, pointing out that police is seen with a stringent attitude and disproportionate violence in videos.
Reminding that the right for democratic reflection and demonstration is listed in the documents international human rights and among the basic human rights, Birdal said; While the exercising of this right is assured, it is among the main responsibilities of the Commission to investigate the using of such a disproportionate violence on students in the activity. Birdal asked for an urgent emergency meeting of the Board of Review of Human Rights to create a sub-commission to uncover the disproportionate violence used on students and to investigate the subject.
