A number of people were taken into custody in Istanbul, Mersin, Şırnak and Osmaniye provinces.
Two members of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom detained in Mersin and Istanbul
Volkan Bilece and Hebun Hakan Akkaya, members of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD), were taken into custody during house raids carried out by the police this morning.
According to reports, the raids were conducted as part of an investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Lawyer Volkan Bilece was detained in Mersin and Hebun Akkaya was detained in Istanbul. Akkaya was reportedly subjected to police violence and insults during the raid. He was handcuffed behind his back and taken to the Provincial Security Directorate.
Both lawyers are expected to be taken to Diyarbakır. A 24-hour restriction on lawyer visits has been imposed and it is not known what the lawyers are accused of.
House raids in Tarsus, Mersin
Çiğdem Kılıç and Taner Ayten were detained in the Tarsus district of Mersin for allegedly “making propaganda for an illegal organization”. The detainees were taken to Tarsus District Security Directorate.
Many detained in Cizre, Şırnak
Many people were detained during house raids in the Yafes and Nur neighborhoods of Cizre district of Şırnak province in the morning.
Reports say that Zehra Aslan with a 9-month-old baby is among those detained. The number of detainees is expected to increase.
Three people, including DEM Party provincial co-chair, detained in Osmaniye
Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) provincial co-chair, Celal Eker, and two other people, Mustafa Çoban and Sabri Çoban, were taken into custody in Osmaniye.
The three people were detained at a wedding ceremony yesterday evening within the scope of an investigation launched by Osmaniye Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. They are accused of “making propaganda for an illegal organization” for waving red, yellow and green handkerchiefs during the dancing.
The detainees were taken to Osmaniye Provincial Security Directorate to give their statements.
