In a press briefing released the day after the meeting of the MGK (National Security Council) Turkish General Staff said that professional military forces will be in charge of guarding the country's borders.
The General Staff added there was no lack of cooperation with U.S. on intelligence sharing in southeastern Turkey
As to a photo taken at the border last week portraying Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoðan’s in a squatting position, the General Staff said that “the position in which both the Prime Minister and the military personnel were portrayed is simply the required position when in a war zone. As seen clearly in the picture, the place isn’t a settled front, it is on the Turkey-Iraq border where snipers could be waiting all the time. So for security the military don't normally stand".
