A delegation from North and East Syria met in the UK with Federal Democratic Party MP Sammy Wilson, Conservative Party representative Caroline Dinenage and former politician and diplomat Lord Jay.
The delegation from North and East Syria included the Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Department of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Îlham Ehmed, and Hesen Mihemed Elî, Co-Chair of the Public Relations Office of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD).
The ongoing attacks on the Tishrin Dam by the occupying Turkish state and allied mercenaries were discussed during the meeting and the need to exert pressure to stop the attacks on the security and resources of the region was emphasised.
The participation of all political forces in Syria in the Syrian National Conference was also discussed.
Pointing out the importance of women’s role in building the future of Syria, the parties emphasised that women should actively participate in these dialogues.
The parties highlighted the need to preserve the Autonomous Administration model, which is the basis of stability in the region and Syria, and said that this model should be part of the future of Syria.
The return of the refugees and the preservation of the demographic structure in Syria were also discussed during the talks. The North-East Syrian delegation called for action for the return of the people of Afrin and all other IDPs and for the mercenaries to leave the region. The delegation also called for the formation of an international delegation to visit North and East Syria and closely monitor the humanitarian and security situation in the region.
MP Wilson expressed his readiness to join the delegation that will visit North-East Syria, stressing that it is important for the British Parliament to follow the developments in the region in order to provide the necessary support on this basis. Wilson noted that they are aware of the situation of the Syrian people and will support the efforts to reach an overall political solution in Syria.
The meeting also discussed the impact of international sanctions on Syria. The North-East Syrian delegation warned that poverty would increase and lead to unrest in the region in the event that sanctions continued.
The parties noted that the international community should support efforts to reach a political solution in Syria in order to protect the rights of all Syrian communities and respect religious and ethnic diversity.
