Russia says two ballistic missiles fired in Mediterranean - FLASH

Interfax news agency has reported that Russian radar detected the launch of two ballistic missiles towards the eastern Mediterranean from the central part of the sea on Tuesday.

The news agency quoted Russia’s Defense Ministry as saying that the launch was detected at 10.16 am Moscow time by an early warning radar station at Armavir, near the Black Sea, which is designed to detect missiles from Europe and Iran.

According to Interfax, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu has informed the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, [President] Vladimir Putin, on the detection of two ballistic missiles.

"The trajectory of these objects goes from the central part of the Mediterranean Sea toward the eastern part of the Mediterranean coast," Interfax quoted the spokesman as saying.

The Russian Embassy in Syria said there were no signs of a missile attack or explosions in capital city Damascus.
