Saturday Mothers in 443rd sit in

The Saturday Mothers sat for justice for the 443rd time in Istanbul holding photos of the disappeared and red carnations, symbol of their silent scream, and demanding the trial of those responsible for unsolved murders and extrajudicial killings.

“Perpetrators are known, where are the disappeared people,” read their banner hanged in front of Galatasaray High School, in the center of Taksim and Istanbul as well.

This weekend sit-in was also joined by BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) Muş deputy Sırrı Sakık.

Speaking here, Ali Ocak, brother of Hasan Ocak who disappeared in custody in 1995, said that they would no more belive the Turkish state's promises to find the perpetrators.

Speaking after, Hanife Yıldız, mother of Murat Yıldız who also disappeared in custody in 1995, said that “We have been demanding justice for 18 years now and asking for the bones of the people we lost. In response to our demands, the state is however telling us a lie. We will not end our struggle until we find the bones of our children”.

Fatma Kırbayır, sister of Cemil Kırbayır who disappeared in custody in 1980, reminded that her mother, Berfo Kırbayır, died before getting an answer to her demand for the discovery of her son's bones before her death. Kırbayır called on authorities to shed light on extrajudicial killings and underlined that their struggle will not end until light is shed on unsolved murders.

Speaking after, BDP deputy Sakık said that the state should lend an ear to the voice of Saturday Mothers if it had an intention to ensure the advancement of the democratic resolution process. "We already know who the perpetrators are, and so does the state which is however protecting those responsible instead of bringing them to trial", he underlined.
