Strasbourg hunger strike on day 39: Support for resistance grows

Kurdish artists as well as people from different cities of Europe and organisations are visiting hunger strikers in Strasbourg.
The hunger strike against isolation taking place at the Democratic Kurdish Community Centre (DKTM) was launched on 17 December.
On day 39 of their fast, activists reiterated they will continue the hunger strike until isolation against Öcalan is lifted.
Hunger strikers had a busy day today, receiving many visitors.
The first visitors were a delegation from the Kurdistan Islam Society (CIK) led by co-chair Mele Hafız Turhallı.
CIK delegation: We must do more to support hunger strikers
Mele Hafez Turhallı underlined the importance of the resistance of the Kurdish people against persecution. Turhallı added that hunger strikes are against oppression and repression.
Turhallı added that isolation against Öcalan threatened the free life of peoples and beliefs and called on all the European institutions to support the resistance carried out by Kurds and their friends.
Speaking in the afternoon, CIK executive Mele Esref, lamented that there was not enough work to claim the action.
The CIK executive emphasized that this resistance, led by Kurdish women, was of historical importance, and added that further efforts would be made to reclaim the resistance.
Visit from artists
Hunger strikers also received the visit by members of the historical Koma Berxwedan group.
Hozan Seyidxan, Hozan Xelil Xemgin, Hozan Şemdin, Hozan Diyar, Hozan Kawa, Hozan Cevad, Memo and Merdan visited the activists.
SKB members also in Strasbourg
Among the hunger strikers in Strasbourg are members of the Socialist Women's Union (SBP).
In their speeches SKB members said that people united can fight against fascism and expressed solidarity with the hunger strikers.
TJK-E representative: Kurdish women once again are making history
Members of the European Kurdish Women's Movement (TJK-E) from Niedersachsen, Germany, shared their conviction on the victory of resistance against isolation.
Axin Marin said that Kurdish women claimed the resistance yesterday as they do today.
Marin, emphasizing the role of Kurdish women, especially in the termination of isolation and torture said: “Once again, the history of the Kurdish people will be written by women.”
Ali Gürsu member of the People’s Council spoke on behalf of the delegation coming from Stuttgart Democratic Kurdish Community Center.
Gürsu underlined that the people united can defeat fascism.
Visits from four European countries
Kurdish journalists from Brussels came to Strasbourg to visit hunger strikers. Likewise, people living in Turkey and Europe also showed support and solidarity to the action.
Kurds who came to Strasbourg on Thursday were from German cities Hanover, Stuttgart, Giessen, Darmstadt, Bremen, Kehl; French cities Paris, Mulhouse, Selestat, Strasbourg, Saint Avold, Reims; Swiss city of Bern and Belgium capital, Brussels.
Evrensel newspaper correspondent also came to Strasbourg and met with the activists.
