Students protested the 3-month suspension of professor Bülent Yücel after he mentioned the closure of HDP in a question he asked in the exams.
On 9 January, Associated Law Professor Bülent Yücel was suspended for three months by Anadolu University for a question he asked students during an exam. The question was about the closure case opened against the HDP.
Hundreds of students gathered in front of the Faculty of Law on Monday and tried to walk up to the Rectorate building chanting slogans such as "Bülent is not alone" and "Don't touch our teacher, give us our exam back". Private security guards tried to prevent the students from marching to rectorate, but the students managed to go ahead as planned.
Eğitim Sen (Education Trade Union) Branch President, Faik Alkan, attended the press statement organized by the students in front of the rectorate building.
The statement said: “We regretfully learned that our teacher Bülent was dismissed and the exam held this year was cancelled. The cancellation of the exam penalized hundreds of students. The fact that we are not even told the reason for the 3-month suspension against our teacher Bülent is an indication that we, the students, are not taken into consideration by the school administration.”
After the press statement, the students submitted their petitions to the rectorate demanding that Professor Yücel be reinstated.
