Suruç commemorations heavily attacked by police

People commemorating the victims of the Suruç massacre in Istanbul and Ankara were attacked by police.

Police attacked rallies in Istanbul and Ankara. In Kadikoy (Istanbul) the people and HDP deputies were beaten by police.

The 4th anniversary of the massacre carried out by ISIS on 20 July  2015 in Suruç in which 33 people died and hundreds were injured, was heavily attacked by police.

Members of the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF) gathered in the garden of Amara Cultural Center in Suruç district of Urfa, while the march in Istanbul was soon turned into the scene of a police attack. Following the monthly sit-in in Halitağa Park demanding the justice for Suruç Families, the crowd, including HDP and CHP deputies, marched in front of Kadıköy Süreyya Opera House.

Police attacked the crowd. HDP MPs Erol Katırcıoğlu, Murat Çepni and Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit as well as HDK co-spokesperson Sedat Şenoğlu were kicked by the police.

Police fired plastic bullets on the mass. HDP deputy Erol Katırcıoğlu was injured in the abdomen and taken to the hospital immediately.

Police harassed crowd in Ankara

In Ankara, a group of people who wanted to make a statement about the Suruç Massacre at Sakarya Square was faced with police harassment.

Eight people were beaten and detained.
