Human rights violation claims in Turkey increased threefold between January 2010 - June 2010 compared to the same period of 2009 according to the official figures of the Turkish government.
Turkish Prime Ministry’s Office for Human Rights (BIMER) figures show 3,475 human rights violation claims between January 2010 - June 2010. The number of claims for the same period in 2009 was only 1,046.
Violation claims from Istanbul, Izmir, Agri, Ankara, Adiyaman and Mugla are on the top of the list.
493 people made an appeal to BIMER for violations of right to a standard of living adequate for the health while 330 complained of mistreatment.
In 2004 only 847 appealed to BIMER. The number rose respectively during the years by 1,373 in 2005; 1,590 in 2006; 1,495 in 2007; 4,788 in 2008 and 4,503 in 2009.
