High Chamber of the Turkish Court of Cassation has upheld the decision from Adana criminal court of first instance to close ATAYD-DER on account of disseminating propaganda for an outlawed organisation.
The case against the NGO was launched in 2008 and finalised with a ban on the association in September 2009. The judgement was upheld by the high court on 5 January 2010 and the lawyers of the association applied a higher chamber at the court which also upheld the judgement from the local court.
Chair of ATAYD-DER Necmettin Aslan said to ANF that the ban on a peaceful association is unacceptable and they will take the case before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasburg.
