While Turkish army committing war crimes by targeting civilians and destroying the dead bodies of Kurdish guerrillas it is also destroying the history and nature of Kurdistan. After the plans to submerge the historical site of Hasankefy under the waters of Ilisu dam Turkish stated is also ruining the Kurdish nature. It is reported that Turkish army set fire on 20 forests in the last 21 days.
While the officials are not taking any precautions against the forest fires in Kurdistan caused by military operation, they are also preventing the locals who are trying to extinguish the fire with their own limited manners.
The fires are not only within the Turkish borders but also in South Kurdistan. Mortar shell attacks and bombardments of the Turkish army are causing forest fires in Kurdistan region in Iraq.
According to the statistics gathered by ANF in 2009 approximately 20 forest fires took place following military operations. The figures for 2008 reach 40. Majority of the fires took place in Diyarbakýr, Hakkari, Þýrnak, Bitlis, Bingöl, Dersim, Elazýð, Siirt and Mardin provinces.
