A Turkish man who attacked a Kurdish hairdresser in Roubaix, France for playing Kurdish music, has been arrested for racism.
A Kurdish hairdresser was attacked in the city of Roubaix on December 25, two days after the murder of three Kurdish activists in Paris on December 23.
The 47-year-old Turkish man, who injured the 27-year-old hairdresser from South Kurdistan with scissors, was detained after the attack and an investigation was launched against him.
Lille district prosecutor Carole Etienne said that “the prosecution has launched a criminal investigation for attempted murder because of the racist nature of the attack.”
The prosecutor said that the arrested man attacked the Kurdish hairdresser first with a hair dryer and then with scissors. The Kurdish hairdresser was seriously injured and had to undergo surgery.
After the attack, on Tuesday afternoon, a protest took place in the city of Lille under the slogan “Terrorist Turkey”.
