Two Turkish racists detained in Paris for 'praising terrorism'

It was reported that two Turkish "nationalist" racists were detained for "praising terrorism" in Paris, the capital of France.

According to AFP and BFMTV, two members of the "Grey Wolves" were detained in Strasbourg and Saint-Étienne and brought to Paris.

In response to a question from AFP, the Paris prosecutor's office confirmed that "an investigation file on the charge of praising online terrorism was submitted to the 1st Judicial Police District by the National Centre for Combating Online Hate and that "two people are currently in custody".

According to a source close to the case, the two men are suspected of having links to the Turkish ultranationalist movement because of their posts.

According to BFMTV, the two men are members of the "Grey Wolves" of the MHP, a partner in the Turkish government.

Most members of this racist state organisation support Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In France, the dissolved "Grey Wolves" continue their racist activities under different names.

In November 2020, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced the dissolution of the "Grey Wolves", describing it as a group that "fuels discrimination and hatred and is involved in acts of violence."

The dissolution order stated that the group promoted "an ideology that tends to incite discrimination and even violence against people of Kurdish and Armenian origin".
