University students join the one-week school boycott

University students member to the Federation of Democratic Students’ Associations (DÖDEF) gave Kurdish lectures at Istanbul University and Marmara University to support the one-week school boycott for mother tongue education.

The Kurdish lecture in front of the main gate of Beyazıt Campus- Istanbul University was also joined by many other students in the campus area.

Students at the Göztepe Campus of Marmara University also gave a Kurdish lecture to support the boycott for mother tongue. Following the lecture, they staged a march in the campus area in solidarity with the resistance of ODTÜ (Middle East Technical University, METU) students, and also remembered Ahmet Atakan who was killed during protests in the province of Hatay on 9 September.

Students said their boycott aimed not only to demand mother tongue education but also to protest against the monist, unscientific and anti-democratic system of the universities in Turkey, and called on all circles to support the boycott.

DÖDEF member students at Selçuk University in Konya also announced that they would be supporting the one-week boycott for mother tongue. In a statement on Monday, Murat Aşkın on behalf of DÖDEF members said that their boycott also aimed not only to demand mother tongue education but also to protest against the monist, unscientific and anti-democratic system of the universities in Turkey, and against the police presence at universities, the repression and assimilation policies of the system and its attacks aimed at the suppression of demands for democracy and freedom.

Aşkın called on all students to join the boycott.
