USA waiting 'demonstration' of comittment from Turkey

Waiting to see if president Obama will meet president Erdogan in Toronto, a top U.S. diplomat, Philip Gordon said in an interview with the Associated Press that "We think Turkey remains committed to NATO, Europe and the United States, but that needs to be demonstrated".

“There are people - he added - asking questions about it in a way that is new, and that in itself is a bad thing that makes it harder for the U.S. to support some of the things that Turkey would like to see us support."

Gordon referred in particularly to Turkey's vote against a U.S.-backed U.N. Security Council resolution on new sanctions against Iran but also to Turkey’s reactions after Israel's deadly assault on a Gaza-bound flotilla last month.
