Members of the Kurdish Writers Association in Amed (Diyarbakır) left for Rojava, West Kurdistan, on Friday in solidarity with the people suffering from attacks by al-Qaeda linked armed gang groups.
The writers, who were denied permission to cross the border into Rojava, spent the night at the Şenyurt border gate in Mardin's Kızıltepe district, waiting for the permission of the Interior Minister.
Speaking to Dicle News Agency (DİHA) about the protest, Mehmet Yılmaz, co-chair of the Kurdish writers' association, said they were determined to cross the border, and that they would stage a writing act unless they are permitted to cross the border today as well.
Speaking after, writer Azad Zal also voiced their determination to display solidarity with the people of Rojava and not to end their protest until they are allowed to cross into West Kurdistan.
Another writer Gulgeş Deryapsi said they stood by all the peoples who have been separated from their families and relatives by borders. Deryapsi called on all Turkish intellectuals and writers to stand by the oppressed against cruelty.
