Young boy killed by police to be buried in Cizre

Two plainclothes policemen opened fire on a group of youngsters who closed the way and made road control in the neighborhood of Yafes in Şırnak's Cizre district on 23 April 2013. The policemen in a vehicle passing from the scene also run over 17 year-old Sinan Saltıkalp after wounding four youngsters with gun.

Saltıkalp lost his life yesterday at Batman Medical Park Hospital where he had been receiving treatment for the last four months. Following an autopsy, the boy's body was taken by his family who left for Cizre yesterday. Saltıkalp will be buried in his hometown Cizre today.

People in Cizre are protesting against the murder of the young boy by police, keeping all the shops in the district closed and gathering on İdil Street for the mass funeral ceremony to take place before the burial at Asri Cemetery.

Speaking in front of the hospital yesterday, the young boy's father Hamza Satıkalp said that he could never accept this unlawful and unfair death, remarking that his son was deliberately run over and killed by police. The man said he would very soon take legal action against those responsible for his son's death.
