YPG launches operation against gang groups in Aleppo
Clashes are going on in Aleppo region of western Kurdistan since armed groups affiliated to the Military Council of Aleppo, of Free Syrian Army (FSA), attacked Kurdish neighborhoods on September 6.
In response to the continuous attacks by the armed groups, YPG (People's Defense Units) fighters protecting Kurdish neighborhoods launched an operation last night.
According to sources close to YPG, a number of gang members were killed in the operation which targeted a significant position of the groups in the neighborhood of Seken El Şebabi and Muhaberat Square. YPG fighters also seized two vehicles of the groups.
The gang groups' recent artillery attacks on Sheik Maksoud neighborhood have also left many civilians dead or wounded.
Western Kurdistan's YPG (People's Defense Units) Regional Command of Aleppo said in a written statement on September 10 that at least 57 members of armed gang groups were killed, over 60 others wounded and 12 others taken captive in the last five days of fierce clashes.
The Command said that three fighters of the YPG have lost their life in clashes which erupted in Sheik Maksoud and later expanded to other areas.
