The Violations Documentation Centre announced its report on the abductions committed by the occupying Turkish state and allied mercenaries in the occupied territories in northern Syria.
The report emphasised that as armed groups continue to arrest and kidnap citizens with the support of the Turkish state, the number of violent murders, crimes, kidnappings, explosions and assassinations in the Afrin region and in all regions of Northern Syria occupied by Turkish forces has increased.
According to the report, the occupying Turkish forces and Syrian armed groups, the so-called Syrian National Army, and related security institutions have escalated their violations and abduction of citizens for ransom.
“As the Violations Documentation Centre, we are in contact with the families and relatives of those abducted. The abductions of citizens in these regions are not based on the decisions of prosecutors' offices. Most of them are held hostage illegally. Many captives and abductees have not been contacted and there is no information about their fate. Moreover, most of the accusations against those kidnapped are baseless, i.e. lies,’ the statement said.
According to the report, more than 501 people have been abducted in Afrin and other areas since the beginning of this year.
